The Reflective Coating Keep Birds From Flying Into Windows

The birds have no real interest in the inside of the house. In fact, it's most likely they can't see the interior. What they do see is the reflection of the outside on the window, the clouds and the reflections of birds. This is simply an extension of the birds world outside.Why would a bird go flying into a window at full speed? Are they attacking the house?It's not what they see inside the window that they are trying to get at. This will happen more often for windows with some type of reflective coatingor solar tinting, but it will still happen with ordinary windows, especially if the interior rooms are dark and it's sunny outside.

Most of the solutions to birds crashing into your windows will act to destroy the appearance that the window is an extension of the outside environment. For windows that don't have a reflective coating the window the answer might be as simple as drawing the shades. This will be more effective if the shades have a white backing.The other alternatives involve the outside appearance of the windows, and reducing reflections the birds see there. The most straightforward is to put screens on the problem windows. Putting screens act not only to reduce the reflective coating from the window, but in the case where a bird might still crash into it, the window is cushioned so the birds may not be injured.Screens just won't work on some windows, for example on picture windows, so in those cases some other visual obstruction needs to be used. This is just a large artificial web that can be placed over the window that looks somewhat like a spider web. How Does Reflection Coatings Work?

The reflective coating is a very thin layer on the surface of the lens; it is designed to be the thickness of a quarter of the wavelength of light - so that when light reflects off the lens, it is half a wavelength out of synchronisation with the reflections from the surface of the coating, and therefore neutralises or offsets the reflections.Anti - Reflection coats stop these reflections and make the spectacles look cosmetically more attractive, but also reduce glare through the lens, and make wearing them easier particularly when night driving and you are sensitive to headlights from oncoming traffic.

Most reflective coating are multilayered so that they cancel out light from all parts of the visual spectrum - however they are never 100% efficient and a small part of the spectrum does not get neutralised - this is why they often have a pale blue/green appearance depending on the constitution of the chemistry used and as a consequence which part of the spectrum is not blocked.The term MAR coating simply refers to multi anti-reflection coating.
