A tire's strength is often described by the number of plies it has. Most car tires have two body plies. The body of a tire upon careful exploration would reveal quite a few of its components. These include bead, plies, belts, cap plies, side wall and tread. The tread is the part of the tire that rolls along the ground and the sidewalls connect the tread to the wheel. All of these components are assembled in the tire-building machine(TBM). This machine forms the tire into a shape and size fairly close to its actual dimensions.
However, the tire is not yet made. The tire is then run into a machine wherein it is moulded properly along with markings. This process binds all the components of the tire together. This is then followed by certain procedures which are labelled as finishing procedures. The causes of concern regarding tires during manufacture include: The time period that the tire will last. The ability of the tire to resist skidding under conditions. The ability of the tire to resist damage from running over objects or upon exposure to heat, chemicals.
It is interesting to discuss how a tire supports a vehicle. Upon close inspection at the tires, it can be observed that the tires have a flat spot on the site the tire meets the road. At the spot where the tire meets the road, the Rubber machines is bent out. Force is required to bend the tire. The weight on the tires and the speed at which an automobile is driven, both determine the amount of force required to bend the tire. The amount of force required is directly proportional to the intensity of bending. The tire is not perfectly elastic. Upon returning to its original shape, some of this force is converted to heat in the tire. This is accomplished by the friction and work of bending of the rubber and steel in the tire.
Racing tires are highly specialized according to vehicle and conditions of the racing track. Racing tires often are not legal for normal highway use. All-terrain tires are typically used on SUVs and mini trucks. A classification of tires may be drawn out on the basis of the type of vehicle served. High performance tires are designed for use at higher speeds. An all-terrain tire is built to have stiffer sidewalls in order to resist any puncture while travelling off-road. Mud and Snow (M+S or M&S) tires provide a good grip on snowy roads. Mud terrain tires are specialty tires which allow mud to clear quickly from the tire.(Tires machine) Mud terrain tires also tend to be wider than other tires. These distribute the weight of the automobile over a greater area to prevent it from sinking into the mud. The all-season tires are used on dry and wet roads during summer and can also be used on cold roads. However, such a tire is neither an exceptionally good summer tire nor an exceptionally good winter tire. Heavy duty tires are used for trucks and buses. The OTR tires are used for wheel loaders and related vehicles. The tires used for agricultural purposes have very deep, widely spaced lugs to allow the tire to grip soil easily.
